GLASGOW — The Fourth Region volleyball tournament begins today at Clinton County High School.
The tournament gets underway tonight when Monroe County takes on Allen County-Scottsville at 6 p.m. Tonight’s second match features Logan County (33-7) against Warren Central (18-7).
Glasgow faces Franklin-Simpson Tuesday at 6 p.m., while Metcalfe County squares off with Greenwood at 7 p.m.
The semifinals and finals will be held on Thursday.
The Lady Scotties (21-10) met the Lady Wildcats (6-22) once during regular season play. Glasgow won 2-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-20) at Franklin on Sept. 6.
The Lady Scotties are 6-5 this season against the field in the regional tournament. They are 2-1 against both Metcalfe and Allen County-Scottsville and 1-0 against both Franklin-Simpson and Monroe. Glasgow was 0-3 against Warren Central, and did not play either Greenwood or Logan County.
This is Glasgow’s first-ever appearance in the regional volleyball tournament. The Lady Scotties had never won a district tournament game until last week’s 9-25, 25-20 and 25-19 first round win over Edmonson County. Glasgow then defated Allen 25-14, 18-25 and 25-18 to claim the 13th district crown.
Monroe (20-11) lost its only contest against Allen (19-15-2) this season. The Lady Patriots topped the Lady Falcons 25-22, 28-30 and 15-13 in the Hornet Nest Fest on Sept. 6.
The Lady Falcons advanced to the regional tournament with a 25-21 and 26-24 win over Metcalfe in the 14th district tournament.
Greenwood (35-3) and Metcalfe (14-20) did not match up during regular season play. The Lady Hornets defeated Clinton County 25-19 and 25-22 in the first round of the 14th district tournament last week, before falling to Monroe in the finals.
