Mike Harris, the veteran boys golf coach at Glasgow High School, knew it would take some good shooting Friday for his team to make the cut for Saturday’s final round at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Boys State Golf Tournament. He predicted his team would need to shoot somewhere around 320 to secure a spot in the finals.
Unfortunately for the Glasgow Nation, the Scotties struggled against the tough Bowling Green Country Club course and finished at 331, good enough for 17th overall. The first round cut was at 326.
“I knew it would be close. We needed to finish somewhere around fourth in the morning group because a lot of the better teams in the state teed off in the afternoon,” Harris said. “We played well, but all of our kids had one or two holes they would like to take back. Chase (Landrum) had a super round, shooting 3-over par.”
St. Xavier leads after the first round with a team total of 293. West Jessamine is second at 305 with St. Mary third at 308. Madison Central and Mason County tied for fourth at 316. The final teams to make the cut, tied for 11th at 326, were Graves County, Lexington Catholic and Bourbon County.
