GLASGOW — Lady Scotties  break Hart County

Glasgow volleyball notched its third win in a row Thursday night, downing Hart County 2-1. The Lady Raiders edged Glasgow 25-23 in the opening game, but the Lady Scotties rebounded to rattle off a pair of 25-15 efforts to grab the win.

Six days from now, Glasgow returns to action with a Sept. 9 matchup at Edmonson County.

Thursday’s win improves the Lady Scotties’ record to a Region-4-best 18-6.

Barren blanks Caverna

Trojanettes’ volleyball beat Caverna 2-0 (25-12, 25-14) on Thursday.

The win improves Barren to 6-15 on the season and ends a five-game losing streak.

The Trojanettes will attempt to seize their seventh victory of the year when they travel to Monroe County on Sept. 9.

Glasgow falls to Southwestern

Glasgow girls’ soccer lost to (Pulaski) Southwestern 5-1 at the Glasgow-Barren County Soccer Complex Thursday night. The defeat drops the Lady Scotties to 3-3-1 on the season.

Southwestern carried a 3-0 lead into halftime before adding its fourth and fifth goals in the 49th and 50th minutes, respectively. In the 54th, the Lady Scotties lowered Southwestern’s advantage back to four, but were unable to mount a full-fledged comeback.

A chance to rebound from the loss arrives this weekend, when Glasgow travels to Marion County to take part in the two-day Lady Knight Labor Day tournament at Marion County High School.

Scotties lose to Muhlenberg

Glasgow boys’ soccer fell to Muhlenberg County 5-1 Thursday night. The defeat continued a four-game winless streak.

The Scotties will look to snap said streak on Tuesday, when they travel to Hart County.

Trojans defeat Spartans

A one-under 35 from Matt Turner led Barren County golf to a six-stroke win over South Warren on Thursday.

Nathan Layton and T.A. Wells weren’t far behind Turner, firing a 36 and 37, respectively. Chase Nunn capped Barren’s scoring with a 40.

Glasgow golf wins 3-team match at Diamond Caverns

The Scotties shot a cumulative 152 to down Warren East (156) and Warren Central (171) at Diamond Caverns on Thursday. Steely Harris and Dalton Fant led Glasgow with 36s, while Chase Landrum (37) and Cameron Branham (43) rounded out the scores.

Glasgow goes on the road to face Adair County on Tuesday.

    With the likes of softball powerhouses Greenwood, Glasgow, Bowling Green and Allen County-Scottsville in the tournament, the Metcalfe County High School Lady Hornets, winners of the 16th District, are probably heading into next week’s Region 4 Tournament as underdogs.

    Another chapter in the Glasgow High School Lady Scotties’ fairy-tale softball season was written Wednesday night as they became the first GHS team since 1996 to claim the District 15 Tournament championship, after beating the tournament’s No. 1 seed and the No. 1 team in the state, the Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots, 1-0.

  • Couldn't give it up...

    Until a few weeks ago, Glasgow High School senior Shelby Ray wasn’t sure if she would pursue sports into her college career. Although a standout basketball and softball player, Ray thought it was time for her athletic career to come to a close so she could focus solely on academics in college. But in the end, she said she couldn’t imagine walking away from softball.

    After Glasgow High School center fielder Jordan Alexander settled under a fly ball to make the final out of the Scotties’ District 15 Championship game victory over Allen County-Scottsville Wednesday night, he raised his hands above his head, let out a big yell, and took off running to be with his teammates.

    A cornerstone in the foundation that Steven Murphy has used to build the Glasgow High School softball program has been pitching. He believes you start everything with good pitching and then you can build from there.

    The Barren County Trojans have struggled with their hitting over the last six or seven games of the regular season and unfortunately for the Trojan faithful, the problem arose again for Barren County on Tuesday in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 15 Baseball Tournament in Glasgow.

    Going into Monday’s baseball game against Glasgow, Monroe County High School coach Jerome Taylor said the Falcons, to have a chance to beat the No. 1 seeded Scotties, would have to take advantage of every one of their opportunities.
