GLASGOW —
Usually, as a football team prepares for the seventh game of its 10-game season, strategy and scheming can be a little more complex. It is very common for offensive coordinators to add a new wrinkle to a play they’ve been successful with earlier in the year. And on the defensive side of the ball, coordinators can begin to add additional blitz packages, coverage schemes to throw opponents off.
That’s not the case for Jason Esters and the Barren County Trojans. With a locker room that looks more like an emergency room and a disabled roster that seems to grow almost daily, the Trojans’ coaches have to be basic in their planning because they don’t know which players will be available game to game.
“That’s the most frustrating thing we’ve had to deal with all year. It started back in the summer when, even before we got into full pads, we started getting kids hurt,” Esters said. “We’ve never had the same five starting offensive linemen all year and that’s unbelievable.
“Our offense has not been what we would have liked for it to be and the main reason for that is we don’t have any consistency on the offensive line. We started one kid last week that had played that position the week before. It is devastating for us and for the kids.”
