Sports briefs: Barren boys golf wins three-team match

The Barren boys golf team remains undefeated in regular season matches after beating Caverna and Edmonson County at Glasgow Country Club Tuesday.

Barren put up an overall score of 155, besting their closest competition by 37 strokes.

T.A. Wells was the low-scorer for the Trojans, shooting an even-par 36.

Chase Nunn (38), Nathan Layton (40) and Matt Turner (41) rounded out the scores for the Trojans. Clay Simmons (46) and Adam Rickett (47) also competed.

Barren will next travel to Caverna on Sept. 3.



Monroe volleyball wins “All A” tournament

The Monroe County Lady Falcons won the Regional title for the “All-A” volleyball tournament this past week in Clinton County and will advance to state competition.

After defeating Metcalfe County in two games Tuesday night, the Falcons are now 12-0 for the season.

They will face Leslie County on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Eastern Kentucky University’s McBrayer Arena. That game will be followed by a match up with Edmonson County at 11:45.



Scottie golf scramble

Glasgow Scotties Basketball 2009 golf scramble will begin with check-in at noon on Oct. 9 at Glasgow Golf & Country Club. A shotgun start begins at 1 p.m. with an awards dinner at 6 p.m.

First place team receives $400, second place, $300; and third place $200.

The foursome scramble format will have a minimum team handicap of 40. Team cost is $240, individuals, $60. Price includes dinner.
