Caverna High School's Lady Colonels fought a hard battle, but fell to the Green County Dragons at Ft. Knox in the final round of the All “A” Girls Region 5 Basketball Classic Friday night.
The Lady Colonels shrunk the first quarter's eight point deficit to just five by the end of the second half, but couldn't quite catch up to the Dragons before the end of the games. Green County won with a final score of 67-55.
Caverna Head Coach Cornelius Faulkner was sitting out his third game of a three-game suspension, but said he listened closely to the game on the radio. His team got outplayed in a couple areas, he said.
“One, we got out-rebounded,” Faulkner said. “They had 24 points in the first half off second chance shots.
“I thought we shot way too much from the perimeter. We didn't shoot enough mid-range, attacking the basket.”
The Lady Colonels were only three of 20 for three pointers, Faulkner said, so shooting from the perimeter did not advance Caverna's score much on Friday night.
“We got to work on defense and rebounding the basketball,” Faulkner said, as he looks toward the rest of the season with his team.
