GLASGOW —
Sometimes, it just helps to be lucky.
Luke Pniewski, the head wrestling coach at Barren County High School, was notified Wednesday afternoon that the Trojans will be battling the best teams in the state this Saturday when they compete in the State Dual Meet in Louisville. Barren County, which came up just short of qualifying for the meet outright, earned the invitation because Bullitt East decided not to participate.
“I was notified today that we would be going to the state dual meet. We actually qualified third in our sectional, but for some reason, Bullitt East has decided not to go. So, we're taking their spot,” Pniewski said. “We needed a little luck to get in, but we will take it.”
The state dual meet, which will be taking place at Fern Creek High School, will include the Top 24 teams in the state. The meet is divided into pools based on school size.
