Blind drawings date set

GLASGOW — Dates have been set for the waterfowl blind drawings for Barren River and Green River Lake Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs).

The Barren River Lake waterfowl drawing will be Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Barren River Corps of Engineers office at the dam, off KY 252  from 7 to 9 a.m.

Hunters must be at least 18 years old and have a  2012-13 Kentucky hunting license, a Kentucky waterfowl permit and a federal migratory bird permit (duck stamp) at the time of the drawing.

The Green River Lake WMA drawing will be Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Corps office off KY 55, seven miles south of Campbellsville. Registration will be at  9 a.m. EDT, with the drawing at 10 a.m.

Hunters drawn for blinds on Barren River Lake and Green River Lake are responsible for locating, preparing and maintaining the blind site for the duration of the 2012-13 waterfowl seasons.

Each drawn hunter may have a co-owner of the blind for use in the absence of the hunter drawn.

The co-owner must be present at the drawing.

Hunters can build a permanent blind or use a boat or portable blind, but each blind site must be permanently pinned with a permanent marker identifying permit holders for the site.

Hunters selected have first rights for use of the blind site, but these blinds sites are open to public use if the selected hunters are not in the blinds by 30 minutes before shooting time.

Correction – In last week’s column, I listed incorrect times for the Masonic Tournament out of Port Oliver on Sept. 8.

This is a one-day tournament beginning at 6 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. that Saturday. Register before 6 a.m. For info, call 678-5335, 670-7538, 646-2660, or 606-0112. My bad.

If you’re at the state fair Friday, you may have the opportunity to meet Kentucky Afield host Tim Farmer. You may have seen Tim fishing for hybrids on Barren River Lake in last week’s Kentucky Afield TV segment.

He will be in the KDFWR booth from 6 to 7 p.m. (EDT) Friday. The KDFWR area is located in the south wing of the Kentucky Exposition Center. You should look for a large circular Kentucky Fish and Wildlife banner hanging from the ceiling.

Kentucky’s fall squirrel season, a 193-day split season that kicks off the calendar of fall hunting, is now open.  It opened last Saturday and runs through Nov. 9. The season re-opens Nov. 12 and closes Feb. 28, 2013.  The daily bag limit is six squirrels.
