Y NEWS: November 1

Special report

GLASGOW — Wednesdays at the Y

The YMCA will offer 50 percent off the joiner’s fee every Wednesday. That’s a savings of up to $45 for a family membership.

The discount may not stop there. Come in to try your luck at a YMCA contest in an effort to increase that discount. Spin a wheel, draw a card, or play another game that could result in up to a waiver of the joiner’s fee.

Call the YMCA Welcome Center at 651-9622 for more information.

Girls basketball

The YMCA’s first-ever girls’ basketball program starts next week.

Girls Rule! YMCA Basketball League begins Saturday, Nov. 7, and is for girls ages 5 to 9. Two divisions are slated, for 5 and 6 year olds, and an older division for girls 7 to 9.

Practices will be once a week during weeknights, with most games played on Saturday mornings. The season continues until Dec. 19.

Cost is $32 for members and $47 for program participants.

Kids Night Out

Kids Night Out takes place Nov. 14 at the YMCA.

Kids ages 3 to 11 can use the Y facilities from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. for Kids Night Out. Activities include swimming, a movie, supervised games and a meal.

Cost is $12 for members and $17 for program participants. There are discounts for additional children from the same family.

Killer Whales

Register now to join the YMCA swim team, the Killer Whales.

The team started practice earlier this month. Swim team members practice four days a week and compete in a handful of meets through the winter season.

Children must be in first grade to join the swim team. Also, they must be able to swim one lap in the pool.

Registration is open until Nov. 15. There are more than 35 swim-team members to date, including at least a dozen new swimmers.
