SPORTS BRIEFS: Area football teams start postseason play

GLASGOW — Glasgow, Barren County, Monroe County, Metcalfe County and Caverna football will all open their football postseasons this Friday.

Monroe will be the only team to host its first-round playoff game. Tickets for the Falcons’ 7 p.m. matchup with Washington County will be $5 at the door.

Barren will travel to Christian County to take on the 6-4 Colonels. Tickets at the door will be $6 for adults and $4 for students.

Glasgow and Metcalfe will also be on the road, taking on Danville and Bardstown, respectively. Tickets for the games will be $5.

Tickets for Caverna’s away game with Mayfield will also be $5.



5K to take place Dec. 5

The Glasgow Christmas Lights, Christmas Nights 5K Run and Walk will take place Dec. 5.

Participants can pre-register for the event for $20. Registration on the day of the race costs $25.

The race will start at the corner of West Washington and South Race Street on the Glasgow Public square, continue to Glasgow High School and finish where it began.

$200 cash prizes will be given to the top male and female racer. The top finishers will also be featured in the Christmas parade immediately following the event.

The top three finishers in each age category will receive medals.

All proceeds benefit the Glasgow/Barren County Community Relief Fund.

Barren basketball ‘tips off’

The Barren County boys basketball team will host its second-annual tip-off dinner at Trojan Academy on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.

The event will feature former UK standout Winston Bennett.

The cost for the event is $25 per plate. All proceeds benefit the Barren County boys basketball team.
