MAYFIELD — Mayfield eliminated Caverna from postseason play Friday night, beating the Colonels 70-0.
The loss capped a 1-10 season for Caverna. The team’s only win came in the form of a 38-36 victory over North Hardin Christian on Sept. 5.
The Colonels began the season in promising fashion. Caverna put up 78 points in its first three games, but managed only 24 points in the last six games it played.
Caverna was forced to forfeit its scheduled Oct. 2 game against Kentucky Country Day due to large numbers of absenteeism at its district schools.
Friday night’s loss ended the high school football careers of seniors Patrick Bennett, Brett Davidson, Travis Toohey, A.J. Denton, Cody Sanders, Jonathan Grissom, Josh Jewel and Marshawn Estes.
