GLASGOW — The Glasgow Scottie Football Team officially wrapped up its 2009 season with a banquet Monday evening.
The event took place in the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ Family Life Center. Joe Myers from WCLU radio served as the emcee.
Featured guests included former Glasgow head coaches Butch Gilbert and wife Daphna, Coach Jerry Eubank, and Chad and Kyle Jones representing their father, the late Bill Jones.
Other featured guests were former standout player and coach Johnny Vance and wife Norma, and long time coach Bobby Duvall.
A large crowd turned out to recognize this year’s team and cheerleaders.
The Scotties finished the regular season with a 5-5 record before falling to Danville in the playoffs.
First-year Glasgow Head Coach Rick Wood praised the entire team during a speech, especially the eight seniors: Ethan Witty, Mason Shives, Cody Richardson, Cody Edwards, Anthony Jury, Griffin Smith, Tyler Wheeler and Jaleel Wood. “These guys set the tone in terms of work ethic and dedication that was crucial this season and will allow us to move forward next year.”
Witty was voted team MVP by his peers. The Scotties will return 37 juniors and sophomores to next year’s team, creating a lot of optimism heading into the offseason.
