Barren dumps Bourbon
Bourbon County stayed dry on wednesday.
Barren County out-shot Bourbon 78-44 to advance to the finals of the Hancock Holiday Classic. Luke Deckard scored a game-high 26 points in a game in which Barren led throughout.
“(Bourbon) tried to a do a lot of half-court traps on us, and we did a good job of taking care of the ball,” head coach Warren Cunningham said. “And we made some shots, and that always helps.”
Deckard made his fair share on Wednesday, including a trio of three-pointers. His 26 points added to a stellar Classic performance.
“He’s been playing really well,” Cunningham said. “He’s been shooting the ball well and has really been aggressive offensively, which is great.”
The Trojans were aggressive early and built a 20-10 lead after the first quarter. The advantage only increased in the second frame, when Barren outscored Bourbon 23-10 to give the Trojans a 43-20 lead at halftime.
The offense slowed in the second half, but the scoring gap only grew leading to a 78-44 Barren victory.
“We just kind of pushed it out a little bit, and got a lot of people to play,” Cunningham said.
Eleven Trojans scored, but only Deckard and Ben Hubbard (19 points, 13 rebounds) put up double figures. Tyler Hughes wasn’t one of those eleven, but followed only Hubbard in rebounds with six.
Cunningham said the Trojans’ opponent in today’s final game wasn’t determined as of Wednesday evening due to tournament tiebreakers. The exact time-of-play had yet to be determined as well.
