As Blake Button watched the LaRue County Hawks receive the championship trophy Friday night after the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 18 Boys Basketball Tournament at Hart County High School, he could only shake his head.
Button knew his Caverna Colonels should have been the team earning the first place trophy. Instead, the Colonels were the district runner-up hardware.
After blistering the nets in the first half and matching the powerhouse Hawks basket for basket, the Colonels could manage only six points in the third quarter and LaRue County made them pay for their offensive inefficiency. The Hawks thumped the Colonels, 65-49.
