GLASGOW —
Sometimes, high school football coaches don't like the week of fall break. Athletes are creatures of habit and if the team is playing really well, most coaches would rather keep everything as normal as possible. They're always worried about anything that deviates from the norm and how it may throw their team off track.
For Rodney Middleton and the Caverna Colonels, last week's fall break couldn't have come at a better time. The Colonels, 1-5 on the season, needed some of their players to get healthy before coming back home to face Class A, District 2 foe Bardstown Bethlehem on Friday.
“Given our small numbers, the break was a blessing for me. We've actually just had a couple of kids get cleared to play that had been out,” said Middleton. “So, the break was something great for me.
“Last week during the break, we practiced for three days and we gave them Thursday and Friday off. We told them to go home and reflect on the season. I told them the first six games of the season are done, behind us, and they don't mean anything.”
The kickoff for Friday's game is set for 7 p.m.
