GLASGOW —
It wasn’t pretty, but the Metcalfe County High School Lady Hornets hung on Tuesday night for a 53-51 victory over Cumberland County in overtime.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early lead, but struggled the rest of the night before taking the narrow victory.
“We looked out of it from the start,” said Metcalfe County coach Peter DiStefano. “We led 5-0 and then struggled from there. We turned the ball over at inopportune times and shot poorly most of the night.”
Metcalfe County led 11-8 at the end of the first period and held a 23-18 advantage at the intermission. Cumberland County came roaring back in the second half, outscoring Metcalfe County 14-11 in the third period to cut the Lady Hornet lead to 34-32 as the final period was set to start.
