GLASGOW —
Monroe County started their season off strong with a 12-0 win Friday night against Franklin-Simpson, a team they haven’t beaten since 1985.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever beat them,” said head coach John Petett. “Our defense played excellent and offensively we just grinded it out. It was a great game.”
Senior Jacob Hodges had the runs of the night with a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 16-yard run to the house in the fourth quarter.
Rushing was the game for the Falcons (1-0), with Hodges leading the pack on 16 runs for 135 yards. Quarterback Chad Wilson followed close behind with 16 runs for 125 yards. Junior runningback Carlton Huff went six times for 23 yards and Tanner Strode took five rushes for 21 yards.
Wilson had 64 yards of passing, going 5-of-13 on the night. Brooks Murphy took two receptions for 28 yards, Mason Kilmon had one for 16 yards, Hodges had one for 10 yards and John Stone Proffitt had one for 10.
Next Friday, the Falcons will face off against Metcalfe County in Edmonton.
