In just three years as a varsity program, the Barren County High School Trojans are already making a name for themselves in prep wrestling. The Trojans, coached by Luke Pniewski, finished well enough at last Saturday’s regional competition to qualify six wrestlers for next weekend’s state meet.
“It was a great day of wrestling for Barren County,” said Pniewski. “It’s only our third year as a team, and we haven’t had a single kid qualify for the state tournament, prior to this year. Now we’re taking three wrestlers that are definitely in the meet, and three more that could get in with some luck.”
The regional competition was at John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, while next weekend’s state meet will be Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
