GLASGOW —
The Down Under came to Glasgow on Tuesday night and Glasgow High’s basketball teams picked up a couple of wins during the visit.
The Lady Scotties improved to 3-0 by hosting the Maribyrnong Jets, an Australian high school basketball team, and winning 56-47. The Scotties won the nightcap against the traveling high school team from the Southern Hemisphere, 58-41. It was the season-opening game for the Glasgow boys.
The Lady Scotties continued their undefeated run in defense of their first Fourth Region title by building as much as a 17-point lead in the third quarter before bench players entered the game for the Lady Scotties and they won by 9.
Scotties 59, Jets 41
After a nip-and-tuck opening quarter, Glasgow’s boys pulled away in the second frame with a 16-6 run. They led 30-18 at halftime.
Ryne Tinsley and Steely Harris each scored 14 points. Harris was the first Scottie to score in Glasgow’s new gym when he hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter.
“It was really a team win,” said Glasgow head coach John Tinsley. He is in his second stint as the Scotties’ head basketball coach. “Defensively, we were really good.”
Glasgow held Maribyrnong to six points in the third quarter and led 44-24 after three periods of action.
The Scotties led by as many as 27 in the fourth quarter before winning by 18.
