Raising (or razing) the roof

Crew members of Pickering Roofing & Remodeling from Franklin haul packages of shingles from the ground to the roof of First Presbyterian Church at the corner of East Washington and South Broadway streets on Wednesday afternoon. Because of the downturn in the economy, the men travel farther than in the past to work on projects in northern Tennessee and southern Kentucky, according to Donnie Pickering, who was overseeing the roofing job. Work began Monday and should take six to seven days to complete depending on the weather, Pickering said.
